If you were trying to share photos on Thursday, you may have noticed that both Facebook and Instagram began suffering intermittent outages earlier today: they were down, but not quite out.
DownDetector shows a huge spike in Facebook problems. There were also reports of Instagram not working for some users. Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, began experiencing issues around 2pm GMT, according to Downdetector, which monitors online outages.
Downdetector’s outage map shows that users in the UK, East Coast of the United States and Brazil were the worst affected. The majority of users reporting problems with their news feeds, while others experienced problems logging into the app and accessing the Stories feature.
Commenting on the outage, a Facebook company spokesperson told Mail Online: ‘We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing Facebook’s family of apps.
‘We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.
At one point there were more than 12,000 reports of issues with Facebook, according to the website Downdetector.
