Review: ZOL Wibroniks LTE Tested

ZOL announced on 16 May 2018 that it is rapidly growing its LTE footprint, and will be offering its Wibronks services to many areas across the country.

Wibroniks allows ultra-high speed home Internet–without cables–but rather by signals received wirelessly, which can be beneficial to those in areas which are not serviced by ZOL. Most of the areas which ZOL have not been service can now receive the service.

Techunzipped put the service to the test to see if it lives up to the ZOL CEO’s promise.

Techunzipped tested the service using the indoor unit.

Wibroniks has very good LTE coverage at the testing venues, and if we had tested using the outdoor unit speeds would have been better.

However, using the outdoor unit would have provided a more stable connection with more consistent speeds and latency.

Wibroniks Speed Test Results

Wibroniks service performed very well, especially when using speed test servers.

Local download speeds ranged between 3.5Mbps and 8Mbps. Upload speeds ranged between 0.6Mbps and 2Mbps.

One of the biggest benefits of LTE over 3G products is its lower latency. Wibroniks service clearly shows what is possible with this technology.

Local latency typically ranged between 22ms and 40ms, depending on the testing server.

International latency ranged between 200ms and 400ms when using servers in the United States and the United Kingdom.

This means that Wibroniks service is suitable for online gaming and other services where low latency is needed.

Conclusion

Wibroniks (indoor unit ) offers an impressive performance, and is a suitable replacement for a fixed broadband service for low usage (5Gb to 20GB per month) or as a backup connection.
