Freeman thrills fans at Chinhoyi EcoCash Chakachaya weekly draw

Gadzema Bus Rank in Chinhoyi came alive at the weekend as hundreds EcoCash customers and music fans gathered for the seventh weekly draw of the popular ChakaChaya neEcoCash promotion.

The full-house crowd, which arrived early and packed the venue, was treated to an energetic performance by celebrated Zimbabwe dancehall artiste Freeman. He took fans down memory lane with some of his biggest hits, including Joina City, Musiye, Vakomana Vedrip and Bvira Vira.

While Freeman kept the crowd singing and dancing, the real excitement came when the latest EcoCash winners were announced. These join thousands of customers who have won prizes since the promotion began.

The prizes have ranged from airtime and grocery vouchers to television sets, solar systems, cattle and smartphones, giving customers across Zimbabwe more reasons to transact using EcoCash.

Juliet Juru, who won a deep freezer, said EcoCash had become an important part of managing her household finances, particularly when receiving money from relatives in the diaspora.

“I’m very happy to win this freezer. I receive money from the diaspora using EcoCash and use it to pay school fees and other bills. Anyone using EcoCash actually stands a chance to win big,” she said.

For Manners Mukuwiri, who uses a wheelchair, winning came as a complete surprise.

Mukuwiri creates artwork using materials such as wire and bottle tops, and said EcoCash plays an important role in both his business and daily transactions.

“I never thought I would win. I’m an artist who uses wire and bottle tops to make things such as key holders, and my clients usually pay me through EcoCash. I then also use EcoCash to make my payments,” he said.

Another winner, hairdresser Tendai Rugube, walked away with a television set and encouraged other customers to continue using the platform.

“I want to thank EcoCash. I use EcoCash to receive payments from my clients, and I want to encourage other people to use EcoCash and stand a chance to win,” she said.

The Chinhoyi activation formed part of EcoCash’s nationwide weekly draw campaign, which combines customer rewards, community engagement and entertainment while showcasing the growing role of digital payments in everyday life.

Customers qualify for the weekly draws by accumulating at least 30 points through transactions made using their EcoCash USD and ZiG wallets. Those who accumulate 500 points or more during the promotion automatically qualify for the grand prize draw.

Eligible transactions, including remittances, cash-ins and payments made through the EcoCash Super App, earn double points, allowing customers to build their points faster while completing everyday payments and transfers.

The promotion is now heading towards its grand finale, with the grand draw scheduled for September 5 in Harare. Qualifying customers stand the chance to win major prizes, including up to brand new 10 cars.
