The success of the OneHealth Telemedicine Virtual Hospital illustrates how leveraging connectivity for the benefit of society can have a profound impact. Through the use of digital advancements, NetOne is bridging the existing healthcare access disparities, emphasizing that progress should be measured by tangible improvements in the lives of regular individuals rather than just lofty goals.
By utilizing OneHealth, geographical distance no longer poses a hurdle to receiving top-notch medical care. Previously underserved communities can now virtually connect with healthcare experts, enabling them to access prompt consultations, diagnoses, and ongoing medical support. This approach showcases the potential of purpose-driven technology in driving societal advancement.
Speaking at the official opening, NetOne Group Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Raphael Mushanawani said the initiative affirmed that geography must no longer be a barrier to quality healthcare, and that every Zimbabwean deserves timely, dignified, and accessible medical services.
“The OneHealth Telemedicine Virtual Hospital enables virtual consultations, remote diagnostics, and access to specialist medical expertise, leveraging NetOne’s robust digital infrastructure. For the people of Mhangura and surrounding communities, the facility translates into reduced travel costs, faster medical attention, and improved health outcomes, particularly for expectant mothers, the elderly, and patients living with chronic illnesses.
Eng. Mushanawani expressed NetOne’s profound gratitude to Their Excellencies for championing development that leaves no one and no place behind.
He also commended the Minister of Health and Child Care, Hon. Dr Douglas T. Mombeshora (MP), for his steadfast leadership and commitment to modernising Zimbabwe’s health system. The Minister’s presence at the launch underscored the Government’s resolve to embrace innovation, digital health solutions, and strategic partnerships that enhance equitable access to care.
The Mhangura Telemedicine Virtual Hospital directly contributes to the goals of National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), particularly in improving health outcomes, leveraging ICTs, and modernising public service delivery.
As Zimbabwe transitions into National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), the project stands as a symbol of continuity and practical implementation of the country’s development blueprint.
It also aligns seamlessly with Vision 2030, which seeks to transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy.
“A healthy nation is a productive nation, and a connected nation is a competitive nation. Telemedicine is not the future. It is the present,” Engineer Mushanwani added.
The functionality of the telemedicine center in Mhangura serves as a prime example of this transformative vision in practice. It symbolizes the remarkable outcomes achievable when visionary leadership, innovation, and empathy converge. By bringing medical services closer to the populace, NetOne is not only reshaping the landscape of healthcare accessibility but also fostering a healthier and more inclusive Zimbabwe, one community at a time.
