Econet Moves to Voluntarily Delist from the ZSE

Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has formally advised shareholders that its Board of Directors has resolved to pursue a voluntary delisting of the company from the Official List of the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE).

In a notice issued in line with regulatory requirements, the ZSE confirmed that it sought and was granted approval by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Zimbabwe (SECZ) to proceed with the delisting. The approval was granted in accordance with Section 64 (1)(a)(i) of the Securities and Exchange Act [Cap 24:25].As a result, and in terms of Section 15(d) of the ZSE Listing Requirements, holders of Econet securities—traded under the NTS designation—have been advised that the shares will no longer be tradable on the ZSE with effect from 31 December 2025.

Econet’s decision comes amid a broader trend of delistings on the local bourse in 2025. The ZSE has already seen several high-profile exits this year, including Old Mutual’s Top Ten Exchange Traded Funds in January, Khayah Cement Limited in April, and fashion retailer Truworths in July.

The move also follows a cautionary announcement issued by Econet on 3 December, in which the telecommunications giant revealed that it had begun assessing potential corporate actions. These initiatives were aimed at unlocking shareholder value, strengthening the company’s long-term competitiveness, and improving access to capital.

While the full implications of the delisting are yet to be outlined, the development marks a significant shift for one of Zimbabwe’s most prominent listed companies and adds to ongoing debate about the attractiveness and future direction of the country’s capital markets.
