The Harare municipal authority has issued a decree mandating the prompt elimination of deserted and malfunctioning vehicles from protected parking lots, commercial areas, vacant lots, and residential vicinity streets. In an official statement endorsed by Acting Town Clerk Eng. P.M. Moyo, the city cautioned against the unlawful storage of inactive vehicles in such locations, citing their contribution to urban deterioration and traffic congestion.
The council stressed that operators of secured overnight parking lots are required to promptly clear all dysfunctional vehicles, vehicle remnants, and discarded materials from their premises.
“This action must be completed within seven (7) days starting today,” the announcement stated. “Failure to comply will result in the council arranging for the removal of vehicle remnants at the expense of the parking lot operators or vehicle owners.”
The municipal administration disclosed that the eliminated vehicles and remains will be relocated to a specified scrapyard or disused vehicle site for temporary storage until disposal or auctioning takes place.Residents are urged to participate in detecting and reporting deserted vehicles abandoned on streets, in parking lots, or on vacant lots to uphold cleanliness and orderliness within the city.
This initiative is aligned with Harare’s broader agenda to reinstate urban organization and cleanliness in alignment with its ambition to evolve into a top-tier city under the #BeTheSunshine initiative.
