Econet Acknowledges Data Service Challenges, Assures Customers of Restoration Efforts

Zimbabwe’s largest mobile network operator, Econet Wireless, has issued an official apology to its valued subscribers following widespread complaints over data service disruptions experienced across the country.

In a statement sent to Techunzipped, the telecommunications giant said: “We apologise for the Data challenges you may be experiencing. Our engineers are working to restore normal service. Any inconvenience caused is sincerely regretted.”

The disruptions, which began earlier today, have affected both mobile internet access and various online services reliant on Econet’s data network. Many users have taken to social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook to express their frustration, citing slow connections, interrupted video calls, and inability to access essential apps.

While the company has not provided specific details about the cause of the disruptions, industry sources suggest that it may be linked to ongoing network maintenance or technical faults at one of Econet’s core data centers. However, Econet has emphasized that their technical teams are actively working to resolve the issues and restore full service as soon as possible.

Econet Wireless Zimbabwe is known for being at the forefront of telecommunications in the country, serving millions of subscribers with voice, data, and financial services through platforms such as EcoCash. Given its dominant market share, even temporary outages like this can have significant effects on business operations, students relying on online education, and the general public’s ability to stay connected.

In recent months, many consumers have been calling for better infrastructure investment by mobile service providers to prevent recurrent network problems, particularly as digital communication becomes increasingly central to daily life.

Techunzipped will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as soon as Econet releases further information regarding the restoration progress or underlying causes of the disruption.

For now, customers are urged to be patient as the company works to bring services back to normal.
