Huawei and Zimbabwe Partner to Strengthen National Cyber Security

The Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, in collaboration with Huawei Technologies, recently held a graduation ceremony for government officials who successfully completed the Cyber Security Training Program.

Officiating at the ceremony, the Honourable Dr. Tatenda A. Mavetera, Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, emphasized the critical role of cyber security in today’s digital world. “In today’s interconnected world, where digital transformation is not just an aspiration but a necessity, the importance of cyber security cannot be overstated,” she stated.

Minister Mavetera commended the partnership between the Ministry and Huawei, acknowledging their expertise and understanding of the cyber security challenges faced by Zimbabwe. “This partnership has provided our Government Officials with the essential skills and knowledge required to protect our information systems, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our national data,” she said.

The Minister acknowledged the vulnerability of Zimbabwe to cybercrime, citing past incidents of social media hacking and alleged bank system breaches. “Zimbabwe is not immune to cyber security threats with social media accounts of prominent individuals and entities hacked in the past,” she warned.

Minister Mavetera congratulated the graduates for their dedication and hard work throughout the program. She urged them to apply their newfound knowledge diligently and continuously seek further education in this ever-evolving field.

The Minister expressed his gratitude to Huawei for their invaluable support and commitment to the program.

Looking forward, Minister Mavetera reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing national cyber security capabilities. She pledged continued investment in training, infrastructure, and partnerships to empower government officials and the broader community to navigate the digital age with confidence.

The Ministry’s commitment to ongoing training and collaboration ensures Zimbabwe remains prepared for the evolving cyber security landscape.

Dr. G. K. Machengetere, Director General of POTRAZ, also addressed the graduates, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in building a secure digital future. “True collaboration is about leveraging each other’s strengths to build a more secure future,” he said. “Your contribution to this training exemplifies this principle.”

Huawei’s Expertise Instrumental

Dr. Machengetere praised Huawei’s role in the training program, noting that their expertise has been instrumental in equipping the graduates with the knowledge needed to navigate the complex field of cyber security.
