Zimbabwe to Foster Digital Literacy with New Program

The Zimbabwean government is set to bolster digital literacy nationwide through the introduction of a Digital Ambassadors Program. Announced by ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera during an ICDL certification event for teachers, the initiative aims to cultivate tech-savvy communities across the country.

The program will task local champions with promoting digital literacy within their communities. These Digital Ambassadors will be instrumental in bridging the digital divide and empowering Zimbabweans to fully participate in the digital economy.

“We envision a Zimbabwe where every community has at least two ICDL-certified instructors,” Minister Mavetera declared. “By equipping teachers with these essential digital skills, we are laying the groundwork for innovative teaching methods and enhanced student engagement.”

The launch of the Digital Ambassadors Program underscores the Zimbabwean government’s commitment to public-private partnerships in driving digital transformation. The ICDL certification event, hosted by the Computer Society of Zimbabwe, is a prime example of this collaboration.

Key stakeholders, including representatives from the ICDL Foundation and ICDL Africa, attended the event, signaling strong support for the initiative. As Zimbabwe embraces the digital age, the Digital Ambassadors Program is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s digital Future.
