Zimbabwe ICT Minister Calls for Digital Transformation to Achieve National Vision

Zimbabwe’s Minister of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Postal and Courier Services, HON. DR. T. A. MAVETERA (M), has called for digital transformation to achieve the country’s National Vision 2030.

In a speech delivered at the ICT, Postal and Courier Services Sector Forum on September 22, 2023, Dr Mavetera said that digital technology is now a critical enabler of economic growth and social development.

“The world is rapidly moving towards the fourth industrial revolution, and ICTs are at the heart of this transformation,” he said. “Zimbabwe cannot afford to lag behind in this digital race.”

Dr Mavetera said that the government is committed to creating an enabling environment for digital transformation, and he called on all stakeholders to play their role.

“We need to work together to ensure that everyone has access to affordable and reliable internet connectivity,” he said. “We also need to invest in digital skills training and education.”

Dr Mavetera also highlighted the importance of digital innovation. He said that Zimbabwe needs to develop its own digital products and services, and to export them to the world.

“We have the talent and creativity to succeed in the digital economy,” he said. “We need to believe in ourselves and to invest in our own ideas.”

Dr Mavetera’s speech comes at a time when Zimbabwe is facing a number of economic challenges. However, he is confident that digital transformation can help the country to overcome these challenges and to achieve its development goals.

“Digital technology has the potential to transform every sector of our economy,” he said. “It can help us to create jobs, to improve productivity, and to deliver better services to our citizens.”

Dr Mavetera’s speech is a welcome call to action for Zimbabwe. The country has a lot to offer the world in the digital economy, and it is now time for it to embrace digital transformation and seize its future.
