The Government of Zimbabwe has approved the implementation of an online border management system incorporating visa and residence permits. The system will be developed by Garsu Pasaulis AUB, the same company that implemented the country’s electronic passport system.
Cabinet said the decision was made in recognition of Garsu Pasaulis’s “remarkable transformation” in the issuance of passports, which has seen the backlog and queues wiped out. The company’s contract has been extended to cover the implementation of the new border management system, which will be supported by an integrated information communication technology system.
The online border management system will allow for the electronic processing of visa and residence permit applications. This will make it easier for people to travel to Zimbabwe and will help to improve the efficiency of the border control process.
The system is expected to be fully operational by the end 2023.

The online border management system is part of the government’s broader plan to modernize its immigration and border control systems. The government is also working to introduce a new electronic visa system and to improve the efficiency of the border post clearance process.
