WhatsApp is down in a major outage affecting the communications app. The service started experiencing issues at around 9AM Zimbabwe time, with users greeted with a “connecting” message. If you’re attempting to use WhatsApp web, you’ll see a “Make sure your computer has an active internet connection” error. Downdetector has more than 60,000 reports of issues with the service, and the outage appears to be affecting users globally.
Meta has responded to Techunzipped’s queries on the WhatsApp outage. The Meta company spokesperson said, “We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble sending messages and we’re working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible.”
Users are even complaining about issues with the calling feature on WhatsApp. The app is not going past the ‘calling’ phase to the ringing phase. WhatsApp has undergone a similar outage last year in October. WhatsApp users are also turning to Twitter to report the outage. Considering the wide range of outages, this could be one of the worst episodes for the instant messaging application.
This is a developing story and we will keep you updated.
