WhatsApp is easily the largest messaging platform on the planet with over 2 billion users. Easily WhatsApp’s biggest frustration though and arguably one of the things that has helped keep its focus on privacy and security is the fact that messages are saved on a device and cannot be viewed when using WhatsApp from a different device.
It has been reported that Whatsapp will soon allow WhatsApp users to access the service in up to four different devices. The news was first reported on by WABetaInfo, which revealed that the cross-platform chat synchronization feature is under works. According to the report, this feature would require a Wi-Fi connection to safely decrypt and copy all existing conversations from one device to another. Also, this requires devices to be on and connected to the web to receive the message and doesn’t keep messages in sync with the handset.
In other words, any Android user will soon be able to transfer all of their chats over to an iOS device, and vice versa. This is currently not possible, and one would lose all data when switching platforms. So, this feature would be a great quality of life improvement with an added touch of convenience. Reportedly, WhatsApp is also working on a dedicated iPad app, which should be available around the same time as the cross-platform feature is introduced. Meaning, soon a person would be able to access their chats through an iPad, iPhone, and Android smartphone as well.
