Today TelOne and NetOne handed over Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to Sally Mugabe and Beatrice Infectious Diseases Hospitals following the recent announcement of our joint COVID-19 response support facility of ZWL$10million.
A sustainable response plan was established to benefit three public hospitals namely Sally Mugabe (formerly Harare Hospital), Beatrice Infectious Diseases and Mpilo Hospitals.
Dr Eldrette Shereni Head of Public Relations spoke on behalf of the NetOne ACEO and Melody Harry Corporate Communications Manager spoke on behalf of TelOne CEO handed over the donations to Sally Mugabe and Beatrice Infectious Diseases Hospitals.
The equipment handed over include Face masks, dromex Googles, disposable overalls, medium-duty aprons, plastic overshoes, chemical overalls, Knapsacks & Hydrogen Peroxide Spray sanitizers for surfaces, 500ml and 75oml Isopropyl Alcohol Based hand sanitizers.
Speaking at the handover ceremony Mrs Melody Harry said; “We are indeed delighted to be able to play a big part to assist our nation in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government cannot do it alone therefore it is important for corporates to assist in every way possible. TelOne and NetOne are playing its part through short term and long term initiatives,” she said.
Mrs Harry said water reticulation through drilling and full installation of 3 boreholes at Sally Mugabe Hospital and 1 borehole at Beatrice Infectious Diseases Hospital has been completed while drilling of 2 boreholes at Mpilo Hospital is currently in progress.
Speaking at the same event Dr Eldrette Shereni said; “Our zwl$10 million facility will also see the two corporates handover donated medical Equipment including ICU and ward care beds, bedside lockers and other ward furniture as well as suction machines, oxygen tanks, nebulisers and patient monitors.”
She said the newly refurbished and fully equipped wards at hospitals are expected to be unveiled and officially handed over by end of May 2020.
Further to the above-mentioned donations the two institutions have also contributed immensely towards the successful setting up of the National COVID 19 Hotline and are bearing the cost of all calls from the public terminating on our networks. Under this initiative the 2 entities donated 20 toll free lines and the requisite equipment to the National Emergency Operations Response Centre. In addition, contributions were also made towards the setting up of an Information Dissemination Hotline 2023, to enable the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Call Centre set up.
A donation of ICT equipment was also handed over to Government to enable virtual meetings to take place as we support social distancing to fight the pandemic.
We are committed to augmenting Government’s efforts towards the mitigation of this global pandemic – that is affecting our nation. It takes a collective and multi-level effort from various stakeholders to develop a holistic intervention that will assist the country to effectively fight this invisible enemy. Together, we will certainly defeat the virus.
