President Emmerson Mnangagwa has declared Corona Virus (Covid19) a national disaster and advised the nation to always be on the guard against the virus by avoiding unnecessary traveling and gatherings
Addressing journalists about the virus in Harare this afternoon, President Mnangagwa said it is time to take necessary precautions against the disease since the pandemic has reached our region.
“Today government has decided to take additional measures to guard against the desease hence we have decided to declare corona virus a national disaster.
“Government has carteled travelling outside the country for the next 30 days starting from March 20 2020.
“Non essential traveling must be discouraged.
“Screening, testing will be contained vigorously.” He said.
Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa announced that ZITF, Indepedence day celebrations and other national gatherings are cancelled until further notice.
“Government has postponed ZITF. All national independence previously planned celebrations are cancelled until the freight of the corona virus ceized.
“All these activities will resume as soon as we are satisfied that our nation is no longer at risk” Mnangagwa said.
Church gatherings and weddings have been cancelled wheres the President announced that schools will be open for the 2 weeks remaining.
The President also stated that no single corona virus has been recorded in the country yet.
