Zimbabwe second largest mobile network provider NetOne has donated blankets, books and dignity kits to flood victims in Binga.
NetOne responded to the plight of Binga villagers who were affected by floods in Nsungwale area under Chief Sinakoma.
NetOne under its Corporate Social initiatives, through the district Civil Protection Unit in Binga donated 150 blankets, 2000 exercise books and 300 packets of sanitary pads to the victims who are currently living in tents.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Head Public Relations, Dr Eldrette Shereni highlighted that, NetOne is a network that cares for the wellbeing of communities, as it has aligned its Corporate Social Investment pillars to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Dr Eldrette Shereni went on to state that natural disasters have become rampant due to climate change. NetOne’s mission is to transform lives and develop communities which is evidenced by its thrust towards community impact initiatives.
Meanwhile, acting Administrator for Binga Mr. Farai Marinyane said he was grateful for the efforts made by NetOne to ensure there is relief for the flood victims and implored other corporates to offer assistance as there are still urgent priorities that need to be addressed in the temporary camps that have been set up by the government.
181 homes were affected by floods in Binga, completely destroying 37 homes and leaving families homeless.
