Etv has entered into a partnership with the
National Basketball Association (NBA), which recently appointed the broadcaster
as its official free-to-air broadcast partner in South Africa.
As part of the deal, Etv will air more than
65 games throughout the 2019-20 NBA season on the channel as well as its
Openview platform.
Content will include a Christmas Day game,
the NBA All-Star game, NBA Conference Finals, the NBA Finals, and a weekly
magazine show – NBA Action.
The coverage kicked off with Etv’s
broadcast of the live game between the Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs on
9 November. A rebroadcast of this game was aired at 17:00 on Sunday.
Throughout the season, fans will enjoy two
games per week, including one live match as part of the league’s “NBA
Saturdays” promotion and one delayed game per week.
NBA Africa’s Managing Director Amadou Gallo
Fall said that the NBA has always strived to make basketball more accessible to
fans through participation and exposure. He noted that the NBA is thrilled to
partner with e.tv in South Africa.
Gallo Fall added that as the NBA continues
its efforts to expand its footprint, it had seen growing interest and looked
forward to reaching more fans in South Africa through additional programming
and live games.
Etv’s Managing Director Marlon Davids said
that the collaboration would appeal to South Africa’s massive sporting
appetite.
He added that Etv is ecstatic about this
announcement and looks forward to a very fruitful run with the NBA.
