CEO Stephan Winkelmann had form in the one-off department when he ran Lamborghini, and it seems he’s reanimated the idea now he’s comfortably ensconced at Bugatti. “Customers expect us to continually surprise them and to move the goalposts beyond the limits of their imagination. The hyper sport car “La Voiture Noire” is a one-off homage to Bugatti’s Type 57 SC Atlantic to celebrate the 110th anniversary of the company. The original “La Voiture Noire” is shrouded in mystery and lore. One of four Type 57 SC Atlantics built between 1936 and 1938, it was owned by Jean Bugatti, the son of designer Ettore. It was also driven regularly by friends of Jean’s, including Le Mans winner Robert Benoist.

La Voiture Noire comes with a six tailpipes not only pay tribute to the 8-litre quad-turbo W16, an undiluted masterpiece and the sole surviving ‘automotive tourbillon’, but also remind us that human craftsmanship will endure through any fad. The 8-liter engine has 16 cylinders and 1500 brake horse power.

With La Voiture Noire, Bugatti has not just redefined the term luxury but taken ownership of it. No matter which Bugatti trinity you dream of owning – EB110, Veyron, and Chiron or Chiron, Divo, and La Voiture Noire – every Bugatti is a work of art, an individual masterpiece, and now the ultimate expression of luxury.
