The past weeks have had a lot of activity from the country’s leading mobile telecommunications giants Econet and NetOne.  Econet’s platforms were down resulting in customers failing to enjoy the associated products and services, such as calls and data, as well as, mobile money through EcoCash.  On the other side, NetOne and Telecel rose to the challenges and were able to provide stable amenities to its growing clientele, complimented by the ability to purchase ZESA tokens.

The strength of any network provider lies in their ability to deliver on their promise timeously to their subscribers. For Econet, they say “Inspired to Change Your World”. The past weeks have been a test of the “promise” they made to their subscribers, with other networks showing renewed vigour and commitment, to their customer service pledge.

On the other front other networks rose to the occasion, driving an aggressive social media campaign on the advantages of their mobile financial service arm, like OneMoney. It would so happen that OneMoney, was able to purchase electricity from ZESA during a time when many were resorting to queueing at Wynne Street. The ability to transact smoothly for customers may have been premised on the stability of the Network from NetOne. Customers were able to enjoy all services and products offered by the mobile giant.

“The past weeks have seen me changing my primary line to NetOne, as a result of data that was refunded, during a time when I could not access the same service from Econet. I was overjoyed with the ability to send money to and from my bank through the Zip-It function on OneMoney which allowed me to buy electricity” says Lovejoy Pfende of New Marimba.

As the battle continues only one thing can be certain, that this battle will ultimately result in clients getting value for their money. It is also hoped that Telecel will join the fold and add value to the intense rivalry in mobile telecommunications sector.

To date a lot of customers have migrated to prepaid meters.

The smart/prepaid metering resulted in consumers changing their usage behaviour to efficient use, with the meters bringing benefits that encompass consumers monitoring their own electricity usage and complete control of their budgets.
