The AV-Test carried out a study of 20 home user security products to try and find out which is the best and worst software to use on windows 10 and the research was carried out during November and December 2018 respectively.
The AV-Test used publicly
available latest version of all products and allowed them to update at any
time. They concentrated on accurate test scenarios and tested the products
against real-world viruses. The antiviruses had to prove their capabilities
using all components and protection layers.
To determine the final score, products
were tested in 3 categories which are protection, performance, and usability. Each
of these categories scored out of six points, making the highest possible score
a total of 18 points.
Adding
on to that, comparing third-party antivirus software, AV-Test also compared
Windows Defender to other security solutions and found that it was one of the
top products on the market.
Highest-ranked
antivirus products in terms of total score included McAfee, Symantec,
BitDefender, Avira, and VIPRE Security respectively.
