An e-hailing
taxi system called TodaZim, a service that provides a marketplace where people
seeking transportation are matched with available drivers ready to take them to
their destinations has been introduced.
In an
interview, TodaZim’s Head of Operations, Mr Nyasha Shereni said the system
started functioning on Thursday last week and it is very much like Uber (an
e-hailing taxi system mainly used in South Africa, America and other
countries.)
Mr Shereni
said the system works through a mobile application that entails a person to
order a taxi ride through his or her mobile phone using the application any
time.
“It is an on
demand service that is powered by a smartphone application where a rider can
hire a private driver to be taken to his or her destination.” He said.
He said the
system will soon be used throughout the Country but at the moment it is only
functioning in Harare.
“We’ve built
the system to cover the whole of Zimbabwe, but at the moment it is available in
Harare and we also have ready drivers in other cities and towns ready to be
activated as soon as all the necessary checks are done.” Mr Shereni said.
When asked
how the new mobile app is going to benefit the nation of Zimbabwe, Mr Shereni
said they have come with this new initiative so as to impact communities and to
rebuild the nation.
“Toda is
here to impact communities through smart technology solutions that enhance
convenience and foster development. This on demand service is one of the many
solutions that we are bringing, with the mind set of rebuilding our nation.” He
said.
