RwandAir Limited Demands Payment In USD

Zimbabwe has experienced a huge blow as RwandAir Limited now demand flight payments in United States Dollar. The company has highlighted that with effect from today 24 January 2018, all flight tickets will be issued in United States Dollar.

However, the airline rejected the use of bond notes and electronic payments ( RTGs) as they are no longer profitable on their part.

Internationally issued credit cards are accepted as they are effective in the parallel market.

The airline has highlighted that it will make the changeover process as convenient as possible. The latest arrangement on Zimbabwe was made after the British Airways operated by Comair withdrew full ticketing, claiming that the destination is no longer profitable.

Due to foreign currency shortages experienced in Zimbabwe last year, Kenyan Airways was the first airline to interrupt all ticketing from Zimbabwe.

The airline added that it was undergoing foreign currency expulsion hitches since 2016, hence forcing them to temporarily suspend the supply of ticketing authority in Zimbabwean market.

The board of airlines representative chairperson, Winnie Muchanyuka, beforehand admitted that shortage of remittances had destroyed fiscal operations of airlines. Zimbabwe owes international airlines about $136 million in repatriation.
