Zimbabwe Well Represented At ITU Telecom World 2018

South Africa’s hosting of the ITU Telecom World 2018, the annual conference of the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technology in Durban this month will do much to contribute to the value of the national brand.

At the event, Zimbabwean voices have been heard in the important technology discussions, which include preparations for 5G networks, impact, and ownership of artificial intelligence, cyber security and the risks and opportunities of a smarter world.

Among those taking part are Powertel, Liquid Telecom, Telone, Netone, Potraz, and other players.

These are important discussions because Zimbabwe cannot afford to be left behind in the global economy. We also need to ensure that small businesses can give the continent a great lever in the development of local solutions to our challenges, thereby localizing the digital economy.

There is a causal relationship between a country’s performance of a country’s information and communication technology landscape and attracting foreign direct investment, demonstrating the importance of the sector in contributing to long-term economic growth.
