Twitter Inc. said its number of monthly users dropped in the second quarter and could continue to fall as the social-media company purges fake accounts.
The Permanent Secretary for Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Mr George Charamba has distanced self from a fake Twitter account, which is using his name to comment on the presidential election result.
Speaking to ZBC, Mr Charamba said the tweets attributed to him are being peddled by people bent on misinforming the nation as he has no twitter account.
He said a lot of unauthenticated information most of it misleading has been sent around on social media, adding that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has the sole mandate to run the elections and announce the results.
Twitter been ramping up its purges of fake users, suspending 70 million accounts in May and June in its attempts to reduce the impact of misinformation.
