Whatsapp Group Description Feature Now Available On Android And IOS

WhatsApp has always been hardworking when it comes to updates, and this time around they’ve brought new features to the Android, iOS as well as the Windows Phone OS versions of their apps. WhatsApp has unveiled the ability to add a “description to group” chats.

As the name suggests, you are now able to set a brief description for any group made within the chat app.

The description will appear below the group’s name on the group info page.

As of this writing , any user can add or edit the group description, this ability is not limited to the admin of the group. Like WhatsApp does with other features as well, whenever the group description is changed, all participants will receive a notification.

The Group Info screen that displays all the members and group picture will have this descriptor as well.

Group admins can also ban other group members from using the feature if need be.

The feature is available on Android app version 2.18.54 and iOS app version 2.18.3.

Here’s how the group description option works for WhatsApp.

Step 1: Make sure you are using the latest version of WhatsApp app on your smartphone.

Step 2: Open WhatsApp on your smartphone

Step 3: Tap on the group name you would like to add a description

Step 4:  Head over to the “Group Info” section of the group on the right-hand corner

Step 5:  Tap on the “Description” section right below the name of the group

Step 6:  Add or change the group’s description. The group description is visible to all members of the group and people invited to the group. The description can be as long as 512 characters. WhatsApp for Android also allows users to search for a participant from the group info window.
