Disappearing Data, Google Now Has A Solution

Many Zimbabweans complain that their mobile data “disappears”, and often blame mobile network operators for stealing their airtime.

The reality, however, is that data does not just disappear users are consuming data at a faster rate than expected.

Google recently launched Datally app which helps people to understand, monitor, track and manage data usage on their devices.

Often Apps use data in the background without you knowing. Datally controls this use on an app-by-app basis. Faster networks, high-definition videos, automated app updates, and an increased use of social media all contribute to higher mobile data use.

Datally is a mobile data manager that will help you monitor, save, and gain control of your data. Through tracking and controlling app data usage, you save more data and get the most out of your phone.

For a while now, consumers have labeled data costs in Zimbabwe too expensive and have also been enraged over the disappearance of data. Google newly launched data management app aims to address these concerns and problems.

If you are running on a tight budget, trying to figure out what’s sapping your mobile data can be a difficult proposition. The control measures Google has introduced in Datally can be used to see how you are doing with your mobile devices when it comes to data usage. Depending on your budget, the Google app can cut the cost of your mobile data bill every month.

The app tells the user how much data they are using on a daily, weekly and monthly basis as well as breaks down how much data is being used by each app on the mobile device. The app also allows the person to lock any apps they choose, which prevents them from using mobile data until they are unlocked.

Datally was tested in the Philippines with 500 000 people having downloaded the app; 85% of them said they would recommend the app to their friends and according to Google SA “… some of them have saved up to 30% of their data costs”.

Datally is part of Google’s Next Billion Users initiative to help countries with limited infrastructure and mobile hardware take advantage of the benefits digital technology offers. But it doesn’t mean you can’t use it to keep track of your mobile data usage.

You can install Google Datally on your device from the Google Play Store , the app runs phones running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and higher.

Proud Zimbabwean Citizen, loving everything Tech related.
