DStv Slashes Bouquet Prices And Introduces Dstv Lite A $7 Package

PAY TV firm Multichoice Africa has clipped subscription prices for three of its bouquets namely DStv premium, DStv Contact Plus and DStv Compact effective from today. The price slash comes at a time when its opponent Kwese TV is struggling to beam in Zimbabwe.

The company also introduced a new package called DStv Lite which comes below the DStv Access package costing $7.

DStv premium now costs $65 from $72 representing a 9, 72 percent decrease while Compact Plus which previously charged $47 is now pegged at $40, showing a 14, 89 percent drop. The most sort after Compact is now priced at $25 from $28, a 10, 71 percent drop.

“To get right to the point, I am happy to advise that MultiChoice Africa is today announcing a major decrease of DStv subscription prices and is also launching an exciting new entry-level package unique to Zimbabwe and to be known as DStv Lite. The price decrease and the launch of the new package will be effective tomorrow (today), Tuesday, September 26,” said Multichoice Zimbabwe Marketing Manager Gerald Ngonyamo.

This is the second time Multichoice reduced its prices for their packages.

“The price reduction is the second one MultiChoice has undertaken in the past two years, having undertaken the first one in November 2016, in turn, complemented by a price freeze in April 2017 and an earlier price freeze in April 2017.

“We recognise that our customers are living in tough economic times and would like to alleviate their financial strain by providing them with the best in local and international entertainment at the best possible value.” He added.

“Our customers are the reason we exist so we are committed to continuously improving our offering so that it gets better with each and every year,” said Ngonyamo.

He added that DStv Lite was tailor-made to suit Zimbabweans’ pockets.

“While existing DStv customers will be delighted with the reduction in their subscription prices, MultiChoice’s new entry-level package, which is heavy on content and light on price, will help make the world of DStv entertainment even more widely accessible. Created uniquely for the Zimbabwean market, DStv Lite will launch on Tuesday September 26 and is positioned below the existing DStv Access package to deliver best value at S7 a month.

“MultiChoice is happy to be able to give Zimbabweans this package as an option and we are positive that this will give even more Zimbabwean consumers easier access to DStv’s world of information, education and entertainment,” said the marketing manager.

However, DStv hasn’t reduced the Family and Access bouquet. Ask asked by the one of the attandes at the event “how effective will is this price reduction for Zimbabweans be, considering that DStv only accepts USD.”

At the moment the current rate to buy USD on the black market is 50%. And to buy $100 you have to part with $150 bond notes.
