How do you make a brand new device cheaper? Sell your old one. They might be completely junky or still in good shape, but no matter what, you should never just throw your old electronic gadgets in the bin.
For one thing, there are tons of pollutants inside these items that can seriously hurt the environment if they end up in a landfill, and for another, throwing away even a broken device is basically throwing away money! If you know what you’re doing, you can either sell your old devices for cash or donate them to a good cause.
Zimbabweans are renowned for snapping up new-release electronic gadgets. But not everyone wants the latest phone release, most can’t afford it, or they’d prefer to wait a couple of generations while the manufacturers work out all the bugs. Either way, there is generally a market for cast-off devices.
It’s very unfortunate that in Zimbabwe we don’t have retailers offering trade-in programs that give you cash for your old devices.
“Many tech items are constantly being outdated with newer or more advanced models, rushing the consumer cycle,” says Deepleague CEO Mr. Sean Moyo. “Zimbabweans are finding it easier and more profitable to list their slightly outdated but perfectly fine gadgets online when they upgrade.”
Some of the key points to consider when selling online, Moyo says, are to include enough details in your ad, including the model, memory, and pictures. He also endorses setting a fair price that is in line with similar goods being offered.
Before you sell, remember to delete your personal data through the device’s general settings, choosing factory reset to wipe the device. Nobody wants to see your old pics etc.
Fortunately, there are several websites out there that are more than happy to pay you for these once-treasured possessions.
On classified websites, you can set your own price and monitor how much people are responding to your gadget. Hey, you never know—you might get a better deal.
You can also sell items on Facebook “For Sale” groups, which works very similar to classified websites. You just have to upload a picture of your device, set a price to it, add your contact information, and wait for people to inquire.
