The search for South Africa’s champion FIFA17 player continues next week when emerging African premium sports media platform, Kwesé Sports – in partnership with Xbox, Canal Walk and BT Games – brings the Cape Town leg of African Championship eSports (ACE) to the Canal Walk Gaming Expo powered by BT Games and GHFM.
The Cape Town leg of the tournament will see contestants battling it out through qualifying rounds on 28/29 October, with the finals taking place on Sunday, 30 October. The four Cape Town finalists will play against the Johannesburg winners in the South African finals in November.
Kwesé Sports launched their first African Championship eSports (ACE) gaming tournament in partnership with Xbox recently at the Johannesburg rAge Expo. This leg of the tournament was a huge success with over 200 registered players taking part in the weekend-long tournament.
Four players stood victorious on Sunday afternoon following a grueling series of knock-out finals. Vin Mushwana took fourth place and walked away with R2 000, Kevin Tembo took home R3 000 for third place, Uwais Patel won second place and received R5 000 while the first place R10 000 grand prize went to Babalo Manqele.
Participants in Johannesburg showcased unparalleled skill in FIFA 17 and this game will remain the official tournament game for Cape Town and the overall finals. Various giveaways will be up for grabs in the lead up to the Cape Town tournament. Details for these prizes and how to enter can be found on http://ace.kwesesports.com/. Entries will close on 26 October and only registered users will be able to compete.
“We are overwhelmed by the support we received at the inaugural ACE tournament. We had a staggering 200 players take part in the tournament, with thousands of fans watching them play throughout the weekend. I would like to congratulate the Johannesburg winners, they were remarkable and provided an impressive competitive edge”, said Jason Probert, Chief Digital Officer of Econet Media.
“The competitive spirit and fan support shown at rAge Expo 2016 was overwhelming. We look forward to the Cape Town leg of the tournament and hope the competitors and supporters bring the same levels of skills and excitement we saw at rAge Expo 2016”, added Joe Kruger, Microsoft South Africa’s Senior Retail Service Executive.
“Capetonians surprised us with a huge turnout at our football tournament at Canal Walk’s expo last year, so we are thrilled to expand on this competition through partnering with Kwesé Sports this time around. We are convinced that Cape Town gamers will come out in full force to enter and have loads of fun – not just to win the cash but to try hard to secure the win later in the year at the final. The Canal Walk Gaming expo, powered by BT Games and Good Hope FM, will be a great week of gaming, competitions and fun activities, bigger and better than last year. So if you are keen to be crowned SA’s star footballer, register soon to take part”, concluded Karl Klopfer.
Canal Walk is proud to present the gaming expo for a second consecutive year. Marketing Manager Vanessa Herbst says, “We are particularly excited about the added experience the Kwese Sports Championship will bring to shoppers.”
Come out and represent Cape Town in the gaming scene, we look forward to seeing you there!
